David A Barrera, Sr.

David A. Barrera, age 71, of Toledo, OH passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Divine Rehab. He was born January 29, 1952 in Texas to Robert T. Barrera and Mercedes (Sanchez) Barrera.

David was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. After his time in the service, he worked for the UAW at the Jeep plant for 18 years. He loved music in all forms and passed his enjoyment of all genres on to his children. David also passed on his skill in playing pool. He enjoyed watching Pittsburgh Steelers and boxing. Most of all, David enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandkids and great-grandkids were the apple of his eye. He had a special bond with his first grandchild, Abeni, as she took care of him.

David is preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Lydia; sisters, Lucy and Terri; and brother, Joe. He is survived by children, Christina Barrera, David Barrera Jr., and Marcus (Rebecca) Barrera; grandchildren, Abeni, Evangela, Damion Jr, Damon, Salycia, David III, Bria, Christina, Jose, and Marcus II; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen (†Refugio) Montano, and Debbie Barrera; brothers, Robert (Kim), Ricky (Diane), Johnny (Chris), and Tomas Barrera; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., where a Scripture service and military honors will take place at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in support of David’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.
