Darlene Rose Vogel was born on May 28, 1937 to Louis and Ramilda Fetzer in Streator, Illinois. She married the love of her life on May 18, 1955. They had five children and built a beautiful life together. Darlene and Charlie moved to Toledo, OH in June of 1971.
There she became very involved through volunteering at St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Catholic Church through the school and Church. She taught Sunday Preschool Religion for many years, always ready to give the kids a hug or uplifting message. Darlene also started The Wednesday night Rosary group and a parish prayer chain. Upon moving to Perrysburg in 1993, Darlene and Charlie joined St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
The most important role Darlene had in life was that of being a wife and mother. She was a stay-at-home mom and always put her family needs above her own. She taught them that family comes first and to always remember your faith will get you through anything. Her most used line in life when anyone asked how she accomplished anything was “Only by the grace of God”.
Darlene had a long battle with dementia. She lived with it for many years and we slowly watched it steal the wife, mother, and friend away from us. With her husband by her side, they lived with this disease, but never once let it separate the bond and love they shared for each other. Even when it got to the point where she didn't remember family, she had a way of letting them know there was still a part of her there and that she still loved them.
Darlene was an extraordinary woman. She cherished her family and taught them so many life lessons through her own actions. She will never be forgotten and will live forever in all the hearts she touched.
