Darla Jill Cooke

Darla J. Cooke, 58, of Oak Harbor, OH passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Stein Hospice after a long battle with cancer. She was born on September 26, 1963 in Mansfield, OH to Ronald and Esther (Brown) Baker.

Darla was a fighter in every sense of the word. She fought through her initial 6-month prognosis, surviving years beyond that to be with her family. She escaped her small town as soon as she found the opportunity to do so. She triumphed through her time as a single mother living in Florida while raising three kids. She would take on any job with no hesitation, including lawn service, roofing, refurnishing homes, among many other trades, all to provide for her children. Despite her life of hardship, she was always welcoming people with open arms – she was a mother to everyone, never judging and always accepting people for who they were. She believed she needed to make up for her past mistakes and she did just that, becoming fiercely dedicated to bettering herself for her family.  She was free-spirited, loved diversity, and enjoyed her bike rides over the course of her life.

Darla is survived by her children, Dustin Baker-Gray, Patrick (Jen Howard) J. Kouts, Cassie Mariah Kouts; her sisters, Rhonda (Keith) Baker-Kouts, Melissa Sammons; her nieces and nephews, Kortnie Sammons, Jasmyn Sammons, Tyler Kouts, Chloe Kouts, Josh and Heather Gardner and their kids; and her dog, Mystic. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Cassie Baker.
