Dante L. Chinni, 89, of Northwood, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017. He was born in Toledo, Ohio to William and Mary Chinni on October 22, 1927. Dante attended Waite High School and Macomber Trade School, before proudly serving his country in the Merchant Marine and U.S. Army during World War II. He married Mary Ann Schumacher in 1953 in Sandusky, Ohio. Dante worked as a Sheet Metal Journeyman with Local 33 and ended his career at GM Powertrain, Local 14. He was a lifelong parishioner at Epiphany of the Lord Sacred Heart. Dante enjoyed fishing in Lake Erie, boating, reading, wood working, cooking, gardening, growing roses, and collecting coins. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Dante is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Ann; children, Patricia Chinni of Graford, TX, Chris Greenlese of Findlay, OH, Carolyn Sue (Ronald) Brandt of Curtice, OH, James (Gina) Chinni of Noblesville, IN; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, William Chinni of Genoa, OH, George (Sharon) Chinni of Maumee, OH, Mary Barnes of Toledo, OH, Genevieve Altenburg of South Haven, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Samuel DiNardo; siblings, Catherine White, Isabel Mowery, Michael Chinni, Leo Chinni, Raymond Chinni, Victoria Chinni, infant brother; and step-siblings, Joseph DiNardo, Samuel DiNardo, William DiNardo, Rose (DiNardo) Geise, Grace (DiNardo) Albrecht. Friends will be received on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Avenue, Oregon, OH (419-691-6768), where a rosary service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 10:15 A.M. with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Campus of Epiphany of the Lord Parish, 509 Oswald Street, Toledo, OH 43605. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the American Lung Association.
