Dan Thomas, 86, passed away on April 23, 2025, surrounded by family who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Dan earned his Bachelors, Masters, and Specialist education degrees from The University of Toledo and dedicated his life to teaching and helping students succeed. Over his more than 40-year successful, kindhearted, and compassionate career in the Sylvania City and Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo school systems, he taught math, science, and was a guidance counselor at schools including Arbor Hills Junior High School, Sylvania Burnham High School, Sylvania Southview High School, Sylvania Northview High School, and Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School. He was bestowed many honors and accolades. Dan was generous with his time and resources in helping and guiding students and was especially passionate about assisting those less fortunate. While out and about in the community, he was regularly approached by former students thanking him for his positive impact in their lives.
Dan enjoyed the outdoors and tinkering on projects around the yard and house. He and wife Jan enjoyed various hobbies together over the years, including tending large vegetable and flower gardens, being owners and enthusiasts of Willys Overland Jeepsters and 1957 Chevrolets, and camping.
Dan proudly served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.
Dan was preceded in death by his daughter Christine, brothers Charlie and Jim, and sisters Sue, Janell, and Sally . He is survived by his beloved wife Janet; daughter Kim (Jim), as well as several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Our thanks to Oakleaf Village of Sylvania and OhioLiving Hospice for the special care and comfort brought to him in his final days.
In honoring Dan's wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements by Walker Funeral Home.
