Daniel J. Simon, 62, of Perrysburg, OH went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 11, 2012 after battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was born in Toledo, OH on August 28, 1949 to Cyril J. and Mary L. (DeSandro) Simon. On November 8th, 1969 he married Linda Momberg. Daniel served in the U.S. National Guard from 1969-1975. Daniel worked as a commercial artist and photo retoucher. He was also a gifted photographer and an avid gardener who grew everything from tomatoes to raspberries. His prized vegetables were his garlic and hot peppers. Last year he grew the world’s hottest pepper, the Bhut Jolokia chili pepper, also known as the ghost pepper. Daniel enjoyed spending time with his family, ministering to others, and vacationing in the Smoky Mountains. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, son and friend. Daniel will be most remembered for his generosity, charity, his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and as the world’s best grandfather. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda; four children, Renee (John) Hall, Amy (Jeremy) Murphy, Aaron (Anna) Simon, and Debby Simon; three grandchildren, Jessica Hall, Orion Hall and Hannah Murphy; six brothers and four sisters, Mel (Stephanie) Simon, Sue (Bill) Hainen, Rick Simon, Jim Simon, Monica (David) Jones, Mike (Linda) Simon, Gary (Tammie) Simon, Diane (Tim) Hainen, Joe (Beckie) Simon, Maria (Bryan) Little; as well as several nieces and nephews. Daniel was well loved and will be greatly missed. Friends will be received from 2-8 P.M. on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, Ohio (419-874-3133) where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 with Pastor Ron Shinkle officiating.
