Daniel K. Brubaker age 71 of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Dan was born on September 8, 1945 to Ortis and Evelyn Brubaker in Toledo, Ohio in the old Irish “Darby” neighborhood of South Toledo. Dan attended St. Thomas Aquinas grade school, Central Catholic High School class of 1963, and Lourdes University. Dan worked at Calvary Cemetery prior to working at St. Josephs Parish in Maumee where he was the maintenance supervisor and cemetery sexton. In that position, Dan was responsible for the church, elementary school, parish property and the cemetery. Dan retired from St. Joseph’s in 2010. Dan is most proud of being both a member of the United States Marine Corps. and being a member of the Central Catholic High School football team, that won the 1963 Ohio State Class A Football Championship. Dan and his team members were later inducted into the Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame. Dan’s family is also very proud of both his moral and religious character. His moral character because of his sincere kindness and friendship to all. As relating to his religious life, Dan was an active member of Maumee St. Josephs Catholic Church. Dan is also known for being a very humble and decent man. Dan loved to travel. Special destinations within the US included the barrier islands of North Carolina and Las Vegas. Favorite destinations abroad included Egypt, Israel, Greece, Ireland, and Italy. Of course, Dan’s favorite college football team is The Ohio State Buckeyes as many of his friends and neighbors will attest. His basement “man cave” is adorned in Ohio State scarlet and gray, and has always been a beehive of activity on “game day”. Dan’s blood truly runs “scarlet and gray”. Dan was also well known and active in the City of Maumee where he has been a long time resident and friend of both the civic and law enforcement community. He most recently completed a Maumee community law enforcement program where he received a certificate of merit. Dan’s true love, companion, and soul-mate is Annie Johnson. Dan’s children include Tony Brubaker (Jeri) of Cygnet, Ohio; Dane Brubaker (Alex) of Phoenix, Arizona; step children Tamara Beyer OLeary of Youngstown, Ohio; Jessica (Steven) McReynolds of Perrysburg, Ohio; Lauren (Nate) Rieman, Matt Johnson and Sarah Johnson; grandchildren, Tyler, Lanie, Kalan, Carter and Camden and his brother Art Brubaker (Sheila) of Toledo. Dan will also be very much missed by his very special nephew, Daniel Brubaker, of Temperance, Michigan and dearest friend, Rick Abel of Toledo. Dan is also survived by nephews Richard, Thomas, Michael, and nieces Karen and Kathy. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Beyer, in September, 2003 and by his sister Patricia Brubaker in September, 2008. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 2-9 PM with a scripture service at 7:00 PM. Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 10:30 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Maumee.
