Dale Ervin Mock

Surrounded by loving family, Dale E Mock, age 75, of Maumee peacefully passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo on July 29, 2008, after a brief illness. Dale was born on Christmas Day, 1932, the only child of Carl E. and Evalin Herrick Mock in Coldwater, Michigan. The family moved to Toledo when Dale was nine. He attended Robinson Jr. High School where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Farran. Dale graduated from Bedford High School in the top 25 of his class in l950. In 1951, Dale apprenticed as a steam pipe fitter ad achieved his journeymans papers in 2 years half the normal time. In 1952, Dale and Yvonne were married and started their family of three boys. In 1961, Dale accepted a promotion with Grinnel Corporation as a superintendent of construction in New York where he moved with his wife and family. In this capacity, he was involved in the building of Lincoln Center, The World Trade Center, the refurbishing of the Waldorf Astoria and Trump Tower, among many major projects. Dale retired in 1994 and returned to Ohio to be near family, his in-laws, nieces and nephews celebrated the return. Dale was known for his quick wit, adventurous spirit and open door policy for family and friends. Among his adventures were navigating from New York to Bermuda without the use of 20th Century technology. He let the stars be his guide. He and Yvonne toured the United States, Europe and The Middle East. He loved camping with his wife and sons and always included neighbors children as well. Breakfast on the beach, welcoming family from all over the world and lending a helping hand were some of his many joys. He was King of sharing NYC with visiting friends and relatives. Dale also loved motorcycles and cars. He was never happier than when his fingers were greasy from making a motor hum. His garage was a magnet for his sons and their friends. Dale is survived by his wife of 56 years, Yvonne; his sons, Charles Dorothy of Dix Hills, New York; James of Orlando, Fl.; Jeffrey Jenny of Toledo, OH and three grandchildren, Andrew, Timothy and Hannah. The family will receive visitors from 2-8 pm, on Thursday, July 31, at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home at 501 Conant Street in Maumee. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am, on Friday, August 1, in the funeral home with interment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville, OH.
