William Dale Gardner, 66, of Curtice, Ohio, died Tuesday afternoon, August 27, 2013, at the Lutheran Home at Toledo. He was born January 30, 1947, in Leavenworth, Kansas, to William D. and Alice E. Bennett Gardner. On June 30, 1990, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he married Elaine A. Traver and she survives. Dale worked in sales for travel and insurance. He and his wife owned and operated We Travel and ITAS, Inc. Dale served and was honorably discharged as Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and 1st Reconnaissance Platoon Commander, having received two Purple Heart medals from injuries at the Republic of Vietnam on October 11, 1970, and the Combat Action Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars, the Navy Unit Commendation, and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with palm. He also competed and won awards in archery. In addition to his wife, Elaine, Dale is survived by his step daughter, Allison Nick Woods of Port Clinton. Also surviving are children, Tricia Vogelsang, Jennifer Walker, Nicole Peil, Rebecca Carson, Joseph Gardner, Anna Gardner and Elizabeth Gardner; in-laws, Darryl and Diane Traver, sister-in-laws, Rose McKee and Karen Traver; niece, Kristen McKee, and nephews, Kurt McKee, Nick and Tyler Traver. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-laws, Greg McKee and Bruce Traver. According to Dales wishes, there will be no services.
