Dale K. Anderson, age 91, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 following a short illness. Dale was born in Toledo, Ohio the son of Ture and Astrid Pearson Anderson. He was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School, where he was president of his freshman class, vice-president of his sophomore class, and was a member of its 1940 State Champion Golf team. Dale was attending Miami University, living in the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house, when America was attacked at Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. He entered Army Air Corp service on December 29, 1941. After Air Force training, he was commissioned a Lieutenant in October, 1942, served in the training command at Kelly Field, Texas, Superior, Wisconsin, and California, before joining the 15th Air Force in Italy, at Foggia, Gioia del Colle, and the Isle of Viz, Yugoslavia. His service included the North Appenines campaign and Air Combat, Balkins. Captain Anderson received the Meritorious Service Award, and also European, African, and Middle Eastern decorations with two Battle Stars. He returned to the United States in January, 1946 and returned to Miami University, then transferred to the University of Toledo College of Law in 1948. While attending law school, he was a member of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity and continued service in the Air Force Reserve. Dale received his Doctorate in Law in 1950, passed the Ohio Bar Exam, and was admitted to practice in October, 1950. His initial practice was in the field of criminal law, and then to corporate and civil trial practice. For 44 years he represented clients in Ohio, as far North as Michigan, as far South as Florida, as far East as New York, and as far West as New Mexico. He was a member of the Toledo, Lucas County, and Ohio Bar Associations, and was also a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of the United States. His final legal association was will Anderson, Holder, Hershel, and Barkenquast. He also continued his Air Force service with both active and Reserve duty, including his being Liaison Officer Coordinator for Northwestern Ohio for the United States Air Force Academy. He served a total of 21 years, 6 months, and 5 days of military service, and retired in grade of Colonel. Dale enjoyed flying his own airplanes and sailplanes, hunting, fishing, ownership and racing thoroughbred horses, along with his lifelong passion for golf. Memberships included the Inverness Club, Soaring Society of Toledo, Toledo Glider Club, National Rifle Association, Silver Falcon Association of the United States Air Force Academy, Eagles Nest Club of Arizona, and the Baytree Club in Florida where he primarily resided from 2001 to 2012. He was currently a member of the American Legion Post 335. Preceding him in death were his brother, Vern R. Anderson; and his first wife, Barbara Phillips Anderson. He is survived by his wife. Margaret H. Anderson; daughters, Hollis A. Potere and Sharon A. Sleight; grandchildren, Logan, Griffin, Taylor, and Kelsey Potere and Joshua and Zachary Sleight; and great granddaughter, Sydney Sleight. The family wishes to thank Swan Creek Retirement Center, Visiting Angels, and Ebeid Hospice Residence for the wonderful care they provided. Visiting hours will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Friday, May 30, 2014 beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial tributes may be made to the American Legion Post 335, 6629 Fawn Lane, Maumee, OH 43537.
