Cotty Johnson of Waterville, Ohio and formerly of Longboat Key, Florida, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014. Cotty, the only child of Robert H. and Dorothy R. Stitt, was born on April 25, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio. She was a granddaughter of Robert G. Stitt, founder of The Waterville Gas & Oil Company. Cotty is survived by sons, Robert S. Black (Tina) of Perrysburg, OH. and Jamie Black (Ellen) of Loudonville, OH. and daughter, Janie “Twink” Brown (Rocky) of Longboat Key, FL. Also surviving are grandsons, Robert S. Black II (Nicole) and great-grandson, RJ of Arlington, VA., and M. Todd Black (Cassia) and great-grandson, Lucas of Perrysburg, OH. Cotty married William H. Black in 1949 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Maumee. They raised their three children in a house built on the Stitt family property in Waterville. She was active in the church and the Christoff Halfway House, which specialized in treating individuals confronting substance abuse issues. It was later renamed Compass. Cotty could always be seen in the stands of her sons’ football games at Maumee Valley Country Day School, even on away games. Cotty and Bill Black divorced in 1978. Cotty moved to Longboat Key, FL. and married Theodore Johnson, where they were both active in various civic activities. Cotty returned to Waterville in 2005 where she reconnected with many friends and volunteered at St. Paul’s. Cotty was a member and volunteered at the Longboat Key Art Center, a life member of the Waterville Historical Society and parishioner of St. Paul’s. Cotty was a member of The Up River Book Club and had the honor of serving as its Chairman in 2010-11. Cotty always enjoyed a good bridge game which she had played for years. The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of Lakes of Monclova Health Campus, ProMedica St. Luke’s Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care in Cotty’s final days. A private grave side service is planned.
