Cornell (Cono) was born in 1927 a child of immigrant parents Antoinette Schiavone and Salvador Pezzino. He was raised by his maternal grandmother along with his sister Marianna in East Toledo. As a young child Cornell sold newspapers to support his sister and grandmother. Later in life Cornell would pick apples from his own tree to share with the less fortunate in his community. Cornell attended Waite High School before joining the United State Army. In spite of being wounded in combat, Cornell was field promoted on the Korean battlefield to sergeant of his platoon. Upon his return to the States, Cornell married Gloria Uhrman. Cornell and Gloria settled on Wheeling Street in Oregon, Ohio where they raised their sons. That marriage ended in divorce. In the years that followed Cornell was blessed to find the caring soul of Clara Murphy. Cornell and Clara married in 1979 and made their home in Maumee, Ohio. Always with a supportive and compassionate spirit, Clara remained his devoted and loving wife until the time of his passing. Cornell was a husband, father, uncle, cousin, scout master, ConRail railroad maintainer (where they called him Joe), snow bird, gardener, fix-it man and go to guy when you were down and needed a strong spirit. Cornell raised his sons with an Italian work ethic allowing both of his boys to own their own business and prosper. Cornell was always community minded, even as a senior citizen he was honored by the City of Maumee Police Department in a public ceremony acknowledging his assistance in their investigation leading to the arrest of a wanted fugitive. Cornell is survived by his loving wife Clara, sister Marianna, sons Michael, John (Linda) Pezzino, step-son Patrick (Arlene) Murphy, 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, several godchildren, nieces, nephews and extended Italiano family.
