Corliss Lynn Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away

peacefully on October 6, 2025, in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on March 9, 1945, in Sandusky,

Ohio, to George and Dorothy Hemmer. Corliss lived a life filled with love, resilience, and

dedication, leaving a profound impact on all who knew her.

Corliss grew up in a close-knit family, where she learned the values of hard work and

compassion that would define her life. On April 7, 1962, she married the love of her life, James

Johnson, and together they built a family anchored in love and support. Over the years, Corliss

and James welcomed four wonderful children: James Jr., Michael, Jennifer, and Travis, who

died in infancy, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit. Following the death of her husband

James in July 1989, Corliss welcomed son Joshua into the family in 1997.

Throughout her life, Corliss demonstrated an unwavering work ethic, dedicating over 30 years

to various retail establishments. Her kind demeanor and ability to connect with others made

her a cherished colleague and friend. Corliss was known for her infectious smile and her ability

to make everyone feel valued and understood.

Corliss was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; their son, Travis; her siblings:

Kenneth, Allan, David, and Barbara; and dear friend, Nancy Stuckey. She faced these losses

with grace and strength, forever cherishing the memories they created together. Corliss is

survived by her devoted children, James Jr. (Dawn), Michael (Kathy), Jennifer (Eric), and Joshua

(Leah), as well as her sister, Delores; many cherished nieces and nephews; and close friend,

Effigina Harris. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren, who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Family was at the core of Corliss's life. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones,

offering warmth, guidance, and unconditional love. Her home was a gathering place, filled with

laughter, stories, and comforting memories. Corliss had an incredible knack for bringing people

together, and her spirit will continue to resonate within the bonds she nurtured.

A private celebration of life will be held to honor Corliss’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the

family requests that donations be made in her memory.

Corliss Lynn Johnson was a radiant soul whose love and kindness touched the lives of many.

She will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. As we

reflect on her life, we celebrate not only her journey but the immeasurable love she shared with

those around her. Rest in peace, dear Corliss; your light will continue to shine brightly in our
