Corlene Jane Papenfuss

Corlene Jane Papenfuss, age 89, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at St. Lukes Hospital. The daughter of Harry and Leah Thayer, she was born May 7, 1926 in Toledo. She was a graduate of Waite High School. She attended the University of Toledo where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and met her future husband, Robert. She received a Bachelors in Business Administration from University of Toledo and remained active with the sorority throughout her life. Early in her career, Jane worked for Butler paper and the Toledo Blade. The majority of her career was at University of Toledo Medical Center, where she retired. She married Bob Papenfuss on September 3, 1949 and enjoyed 64 wonderful years together. In their early years, Jane and Bob enjoyed taking the train to New York to watch Broadway Shows and then catch the red eye home in order to get to work on Monday. Jane was a member of First Congregational Church, where she was active, Jesterettes of the Shrine, Dendarah Court, and the American Association of University Women. She enjoyed reading and playing bridge. Jane and her husband loved to travel, especially to Florida and cruises to the Caribbean. She resided at Waterford at Levis Commons and was very active in many of their activities. Most of all she loved to watch her grandchildren grow and followed all their sports and various activities. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Her family was always most important to her. She is survived by her son, Larry (Lisa) Papenfuss; grandchildren, Brent and Allison Papenfuss; sister-in-law, Jane Thayer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob and brother, Harry Thayer, Jr. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 2-7 PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd) where services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Wolfinger Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zenobia Shrine or Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. Condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
