Clayton D. Sherman, age 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 surrounded by his family at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. Clayton was born in Oregon, Ohio on May 18, 1935 to Jim and Edith (Boday) Sherman. He was a 1954 graduate of Clay High School where he played varsity football and ran track. Clayton met Grace Mary Drago in 1952 at a skating rink at Pearson Park and they married in 1955. He worked for the CSX Railroad, Walbridge, OH as a conductor from 1958 until retiring in 1998, where he was known as CD Sherman. A dedicated father, Clayton served as Arlington Schools PTA President and coached baseball when his children were young. He was a member of Crosswood Church where he served as a deacon. Claytons relationship with Christ Jesus grew throughout the years…his fruit was evidence. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clayton always had a pocket full of Double Bubble chewing gum to share. Clayton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace; sons, William (Pamela) and Clayton, Jr.; daughters, Toni (Danilo) Medina and Carmela (David) Pyle; brothers, Calvin and Edwin (Donna); 12 grandchildren 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carmela Provo and Maude Drago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Edith; sisters, Ruth and Violet; brother, Harold; and son-in-law, Dean Watkins. Visitation will be Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 3-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will begin at 10:30am Monday.
