Clarence F. Parlette, 95, of Martin, Ohio, died Saturday, December 27, 2014 in his residence. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 5, 1919 to Clarence C. and Clara (Tabbert) Parlette. Clarence married Luella M. Gerkensmeyer in Solomon Lutheran Church, Woodville, Ohio on September 7, 1940 and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2002. Clarence was a field representative for the H.J. Heinz Company for 31 years, retiring in 1982. During that time he worked with farmers, under contract with H.J. Heinz, raising tomatoes and pickles for processing. His passion was always working with the soil, raising vegetables on his farm and in his greenhouse, such as garlic, tomatoes, pickles, flowers, and many other plants. Clarence was an avid reader and believed that learning was a life-long adventure. He loved his family and enjoyed having them around, especially his great-grandchildren in recent years. He always kept up on what was going on in their lives and encouraged them to learn all they could. Clarence is survived by his children, James (Donna) Parlette, Elliston, OH, Diane (Ted) Huss, Genoa, OH, Carol (Ed) Hall, Hilliard, OH, grandchildren, Jim (Shannon) Parlette, Beth (Wes) Bolyard, Matt (Susan) Huss, Wendy (Rick) Armon, Thadd (Dee) Huss, Eric (Katherine) Hall PhD., Heather (Andy) Maciejewski, great grandchildren, Noah, Quinn Riley Parlette, Nate Ben Bolyard, Ellie, Max Clare Huss, Knox Armon, Annabelle Ava Huss, and Jessica Maciejewski. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Luella, brothers, Harold, Marvin and William Parlette, and sister Kathryn Schreuder. A funeral service will be conducted for Clarence at 11 AM, Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in St. John United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St., Genoa. Interment will follow in the Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, Ohio. Visitation will be held from 2-4 6-8 PM, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The family suggests memorial contributions for Clarence be directed to the Parlette Compassion Fund of St. John United Church of Christ, Genoa or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Michigan Chapter Detroit Office, 2265 Livernois, Suite 410, Troy, MI 48083.
