Clarence A. ('Bud') Gartz, 87, died on October 11, 2014 at Heartland of Perrysburg, with his wife of 57 years, Mary (Delaplane), by his side. He is also survived by his son Michael (Gosia) Gartz, daughter Ann Chen, grandchildren Celia and Daphne Chen, as well as sisters Dolores Collins, Betty (Bill) O'Connor, and Suzanne Gartz, and brother Dwight. Bud's family was of greatest importance to him, and he was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Bud was drafted into the army after his freshman year at the University of Toledo, and served in the states for 19 months. Upon returning home he continued his college education, earning a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree. He was hired by Libbey-Owens-Ford in 1950, and most of his 39 years there were spent at the Rossford plant. He became Superintendent of the Tank Department, Plant Manager, and eventually a Vice President. Bud dealt fairly with people and garnished much respect. He was known to be courteous and pleasant to everyone. In retirement he became a Master Gardener and was a volunteer at 577 Foundation. He also picked up cooking as a hobby and enjoyed trying new recipes and improvising. Although Bud was active on various committees and boards over the years, he was most dedicated to his church, Trinity Episcopal, where he served in many capacities, twice being elected Senior Warden of the vestry. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, One Trinity Plaza, Toledo, Ohio, 43604. A visitation will precede the service at 9:30. Memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Church or to Hospice of NW Ohio, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, OH, 43551.
