Clara L. Gurney

Clara L. Gurney, 93, of Attica, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 5, 2008, in Mercy Hospital of Willard. Clara was born June 24, 1915, in Attica to Carl and Mary Elizabeth Bollinger Acker. She was a 1933 graduate of Attica High School; and on September 3, 1935, in the Attica Baptist Church parsonage, she married Walter R. Gurney, who preceded her in death April 5, 1942. Clara retired after 37 years from the Pioneer Rubber Co. in Attica. Beginning in March 1980 she volunteered over 20 years at the Mercy Hospital of Willard and was a teachers helper for many years at Seneca East Elementary in Attica. Clara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Betty Mae Harold A. Walliser, grandchildren, Jim Deborah Smith of Queretaro, Mexico, Dennis Donna Reiter of Tiffin, Robert Denise McGee of Baltimore, OH, and Ned Beth Walliser of Danville, IN, ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and sister, Iola Russell of Sandusky. Her parents, husband, and sister, Mary Gillett, preceded her in death. The funeral service will be conducted in Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Home, Attica, at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2008, with one hour visitation prior; the Rev. Dr. James Hoffman will be officiating. Burial will take place in Attica-Venice Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials for Clara to Attica Baptist Church, 101 E. High St., Attica, OH 44807. Arrangements have been handled by the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Genoa, Ohio.
