Chester J. Kurant

Chester J. Kurant, 89, of Marblehead passed away Saturday, July 09, 2011 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky. He was born on July 02, 1922 in Lorain, the son of Hipolit and Bernice Jacoboski Kurant. On November 21, 1945 in Lorain, he married Aimee Mawhinney and she preceded him in death on April 01, 2010. Chester worked as an electrician for U. S. Steel Corp, in Lorain for 35 years, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran serving in the U. S. Army during WWII, as a Staff Sergeant HA CO 4th Tank BN from June 13, 1940 until June 17, 1945. He also served in the National Guard, Company B 145th Infantry from October 21, 1947 until October 20, 1950. Chester was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Marblehead and a resident of Marblehead for the past 25 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Stanley Jadwisiak Post #7572, American Legion Post #113, Polish Club of Lorain and the Lions Club of Marblehead. Chester was a volunteer and delivered meals to shut ins. He was named Ottawa Countys outstanding volunteer of the year in 1995. Chester enjoyed time with his family and friends, fishing, traveling and square dancing. He was active in the Danbury Senior Center and Ottawa County Branch 8590 Lutheran Brotherhood. Survivors include: Son: Robert J. Therese Kurant of Glenmont, OH; Daughter: Ruth David Mazur of Marblehead, OH; 5 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren and Brother: Richard Kurant of Lorain, OH Chester was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 sister and 3 brothers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Dan Ring at 11:00AM, Friday, July 22, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, where the body will lie in repose from 9:00AM until the time of Mass. Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Marblehead, OH, with a military graveside service conducted by the Marblehead V. F. W. Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Chester to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
