Chester Chaffin, II

Chester Chaffin II, 54 of Port Clinton, Ohio and formerly of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo after a massive stroke. He was the son of Chester and Sherlene (Cook) Chaffin. He was born at Castle AFB, California in Atwater, California.

Chester was medically retired from the United States Army. He worked various jobs throughout his life, finally working in the WalMart garden department where he enjoyed being outside and helping customers plan their outside landscaping. They moved here to be close to his parents.

Chester enjoyed listening to and watching old TV shows like Gunsmoke and Paladin and old cowboy shows. He liked reading about and visiting historical places such as Boston and Philadelphia, fishing, and time with grandchildren.

He is survived by his parents; sister, Kerry Hilton; sons, Cody (Emily) and Ryan; grandchildren, Caiden, Oliver, Maverick; fiancée, Julie Betten and her nephew, Zack Betten; paternal grandmother, Marcia Chaffin of Port Clinton; former spouse, Becky Chaffin; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Bill Chaffin; maternal grandparents, Melvin and Euphema Cool; and brother-in-law, Mark Hilton.

Chester was an organ, eye, and tissue donor. Through Life Connection, he was able to save numerous lives and some burn victims. These are special people who are helping us in this most difficult time.

Thank you to the staff at St. Vincent Neuro Unit. We can't recall them all, but Sara, Megan, Tatum, Liz, Brie and Steve are a few. They all made sure Chester was made comfortable from day one.

Thank you neighbors for all your cards, flowers, hugs and friendship. You are like family to us.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 24 from 2-4 pm at 215 E. 4th Street, Port Clinton.
