Cheryl L. (Szczublewski) Thomas, age 61, of Toledo, passed away, January 27, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Born June 8, 1961, in Toledo, she was the daughter Robert and Ginny (Hughes) Szczublewski. Cheryl graduated from Whitmer High School in 1979 and from the University of Toledo receiving her bachelor’s degree in 2017.
She had a passion for food, music, and pandas and was an avid football fan, especially her Steelers, Buckeyes and, of course, Toledo Rockets! She also enjoyed baking, dancing, and spending time with her family. Cheryl was employed with the University of Toledo for the past 30 years and loved her work as the secretary to Vice President, Dr. Sammy Spann. She created lifelong friendships with the people she encountered and helped at the university.
Cheryl met her husband, Dave Thomas, while playing softball for a team that was managed by his parents. After marrying, she was happy to be a loving wife, a mom to two beautiful children, and proud Grammy to four wonderful grandchildren whom she loved to spoil and spend time with as much as possible.
Cheryl was very much a beach girl and loved to be out in the sun. Anytime she could soak up some sunshine, she was there. Cheryl loved to travel, especially with her family, as well as taking pictures of everything she did. She was our Picture Queen. Cheryl had a big heart, always put her family first, and was known to constantly have a smile on her face and a drink in her hand, ready to party.
Cheryl is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Dave; mother, Ginny; children, Nicole (Antonio) Fisher, Michael (Jenny); grandchildren, Corbin, Olivia, Mackenzie, and Cameron; siblings, Steve, Greg (Nancy), Bob (Angela); nieces and nephews, Ryan (Brooke), Steven, Corey (Angela), Kyle (Sara), Samantha (Dane), Haley (Alec), Aly, and Casey. Her father preceded her in death.
