Cheryl Chesney-Walker

Cheryl Lynn Chesney-Walker, born January 15, 1960 in Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away quietly and peacefully on January 23, 2012 in Powhatan, Virginia. Cheryl graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1978. She went on to pursue a teaching degree from the Bowling Green State University in 1982. She achieved her Masters degree in Education in 1994 from the University of Toledo. Cheryl worked for several years in the Springfield Local School District in the Special Education Department. She went on to work for the University of Toledo Medical College formerly Medical College of Ohio, Washtenaw Community College, and Terra State Community College until 2004 when she left Ohio for Virginia to take a position at the Virginia Commonwealth University as Executive Director of Student Services and Students with Special Needs. Cheryl has undoubtedly touched many lives and helped numerous students in the education world. Cheryl loved fishing and karaoke with her husband. She enjoyed making candles and many, many trips to the beach. More than anything, Cheryl loved volunteering her time tutoring and teaching children. She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Carol Chesney; her grand-parents James and Marjorie Chesney and William and Cledys Gerwin. She is survived by her Husband Shawn Walker; Son Nicholas Kasey Abrams Karafa; Daughter Morgan William Jones; Sisters Cynthia Fred Hille, Michele Walt VanDromme; Brother, David Julie Chesney; Aunt, Jane Parson; Uncle, Gary Paula Anne Gerwin and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Cheryl will be hosted for friends and family at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, Ohio on Sunday January 29, 2012 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Monday after 10:00 am followed by services at 11:00 am.
