Cheryl Ann Burke

Cheryl Ann Burke, 69, of Port Clinton, passed away Saturday, August 31, surrounded by her family at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. She was born October 8, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Gerald E. and Esther R. (Wiggins) Wolford. Cheryl graduated from Lake High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation she attended Penta County Technical College and studied Business Machines. She worked for Sears, where she met her husband Michael. Early in their marriage they were stationed in Little Rock, AR, the Philippines, Minot, ND and Dayton, OH. Cheryl worked at two jewelry stores, Nationwide Insurance, State Farm Insurance and Home Instead Health Care. A devout christian, she was always active in her church. She played the organ, enjoyed gardening, bargain hunting, family card games and collected knick knacks. Ever lucky, she easily spotted many four leaf clovers. Cheryl was a skilled practical joker, and always surprised her family on April Fools’ Day, even though they were expecting it. She loved animals and made regular visits to the Humane Society of Ottawa County. Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother Esther R. Wolford and brother Richard G. Wolford. Surviving in addition to her husband, Michael W. Burke; her children Kenneth M. Burke and his wife Karen of Columbus, Ronald L. Burke and his wife Beth of Portage, Justin D. Burke and his wife Amanda of Hilliard, Crystal L. Burke of Pemberville; 5 grandchildren Allyson, Keegan, Johnathan, Keira and Ariah; father and step-mother Gerald E. Wolford and his wife Esther of Rapid City, SD; siblings Perry D. Wolford and his wife Dana of Hudson, FL, Constance L. Guthrie and her husband Bret of Hickory, NC, Amy M. Beers and her husband Terry of Howard, SD; step-siblings Brenda S. Carmichael of Wall, SD, Diane R. Geigle and her husband Norman of Wall, SD, Carl R. Hill and his wife Jan of Rapid City, SD and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held this Friday, Sept 6, 4:00 to 9:00 pm, service at 7:00 pm at Chapel on the Lake, 145 Bridge Rd, Lakeside Marblehead, OH 43440. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Chapel on the Lake or the Humane Society of Ottawa County.
