Charles Charlie G. Bast, 84, formerly of Oak Harbor and Genoa, Ohio, died Sunday, March 28, 2010, in Heartland of Waterville, Waterville, Ohio. Charlie was born in Graytown, Ohio, May 24, 1925, to George and Elizabeth Bolander Bast. He married Doris Fillmore in Trinity Lutheran Church, Elmore, Ohio, on June 26, 1947, and she preceded him in death. Charlie was a farmer and had worked for the Erie Ordnance Depot and retired on January 21, 1987, after 30 years as a maintenance worker for the Ohio Turnpike Commission. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa. Charlie was an active and long-time member of the Masonic Lodge #495, a past member of the Shriner Road Runners and past member and president of the Zenobia Temple of Ottawa County. Charlie loved playing cards and enjoyed square dancing. Survivors include his grandchildren, Jason Sage Bast and Angelina William Myler, great grandchildren, Isabella and Elijah Bast, Hayden Myler, and Kelsey Raveschot, and sisters-in-law, Helen Bast and Donna Schell, as well as nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Doris, children, Glenn Bast and Darlene Siwa, and brothers, Alfred, Wilbert and Robert Bast. A memorial service conducted by Rev. Winfield Strout will be held at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. A Masonic service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. by the Rubicon Lodge No. 237 F. & A.M. of Waterville. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. A private interment will take place in Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, Ohio. Memorial contributions in Charlies name may be made to St. Johns United Church of Christ or the Browning Masonic Community, 8883 Browning Dr., Waterville, OH 43566. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, 501 West St. Genoa, OH 43430, has assisted the family with arrangements.
