Charles R. Traxler, age 87 of Sioux City, Iowa formerly of Toledo passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 in his residence. He was born in Williams County, Ohio on June 8, 1925 to Charley and Carrie Wirick Traxler. After graduating from high school he entered the Air Force Cadet Program where he trained to be a bombardier and flight engineer on the B29, he was discharged in 1945. He attended Defiance College and then took a job with ATT and worked with them in various capacities for 36 years, retiring in 1984 as a member of a team rendering financial reports to Washington DC on long distance services the company provided. He and his late wife, Twila enjoyed traveling together and vacationing in Florida where he became an excellent golfer. One of his highlights in retirement was being part of a Freedom Flight in 2011 with 80 other World War II veterans. Charles was preceded in death by his wife Twila, who died on May 18, 2009; and sisters, Irene Fauver, Florence Keiser and Alice Tressler. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Scott Sorensen of Sioux City, and Brenda Eric Hulphers of Layton, Utah; grandsons, Phillip and Eric Sorensen; brother, Peter Traxler; sisters, Donna King and Janet Lee; and nieces and nephews. Friends may visit the family at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on Tuesday after 10 AM where funeral services will follow at 1 PM. Entombment will be in Toledo Memorial Park.
