Charles A. Sailstad Chuck, age 75, passed away Wednesday April 3, 2013 at Toledo Hospital. The son of Alton and Inez, he was born April 20, 1937 in Evanston, IL. He was a graduate of Evanston High School and graduated from Harvard University with honors. He then entered U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Lexington and was honorably discharge with the rank of Lutienant. Chuck then attended the University of Michigan where he met his future wife, Ruth Ann Neipp and earned his Jurist Doctorate. Following law school, he began working for Shell Oil at the main office in New York for 5 years before transferring to their office in San Francisco. In 1971 he moved to Toledo to join his father-in-laws law firm, Reams, Bretherton and Neipp. While working at the law firm he also worked for the prosecutors office and headed up the foreclosure division. He loved Florida, most particularly Sanibel Island. He and Ruth Ann owned a condo for many years next to Sanibel Island on Captiva Island. Chuck was an avid sports fan, especially the Cubs and University of Michigan. In fact, he was a pitcher for his high school and freshman year at Harvards baseball teams. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann; children, Christopher Sailstad, Cynthia Michael Cornish, Curtis Kimberly Sailstad; grandchildren, Tanya & Christopher Sailstad, Jr., Kristin & Jack Cornish; brother, Ronald Lee Sailstad; brother-in-law, Morton Neipp; and sister-in-law, Mary Knemeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held on Friday April 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Michaels in the Hills Episcopal Church 4718 Brittany Rd Toledo, OH 43606. Interment will follow in the memorial garden at St. Michaels. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Michaels in the Hills Episcopal Church.
