Charles H. Rickard

June 4, 1930 — December 30, 2023

Charles H. Rickard, 93, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Parkcliff Community, Northwood, Ohio after a short illness. He was born in Maumee, Ohio on June 4, 1930, the son of Claude A. and Helen V. (McClure) Rickard. He was attending Woodward High School and prior to graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War from 1948 until being honorably discharged in 1952. On May 16, 2004, he received his high school diploma and was recognized for his service to the United States, from Governor Bob Taft and the State of Ohio. Charles met Mina F. (Henz) while serving in the Army, and they were married in Ravolzhausen, Germany on January 29, 1953.

Charles worked for the Toledo Edison as a senior lineman for 40 years, retiring in 1993. He was proud of his job, and it allowed him to be a great provider for his wife and son. He loved to play golf with his son, Chris. They enjoyed the game itself and the closeness it brought to them. They played many courses and with regularity, including the Bayview Golf Course in Point Place. Charles also enjoyed league bowling at the former Southwick Lanes, creating all types of wood projects and working on electrical projects. With his background in electricity, he was always ready to help others with their electrical needs no matter the project!

Charles is survived by his wife, Mina, son, Chris Rickard, his grandson and his wife, Bradley & Meagan Rickard, great granddaughter, Adriah Davis, and sister, Dolores (Jim) Plageman. He was preceded by his parents, and siblings, Robert, Eleanor, Leona, Pauline, and Tom.
