Charles W. “Charlie” Peckinpaugh, III, 76, of Maumee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was born in Toledo, Ohio to Charles W. Jr. and Cherie (Smith) Peckinpaugh on March 25, 1945. Charlie graduated from Maumee Valley Country Day School in 1963, then continued to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Toledo. He married his beloved wife, Karen (Caulkins) Peckinpaugh in 1975. Charlie was the comptroller for Reichert Stamping Company until early retirement in 1985. He loved taking photographs, and enjoyed helping with bookkeeping at Blue Ribbon Photo in the subsequent years. This ultimately led him to own and operate his own photography Studio in Bowling Green, “Studio 157”. Charlie was a social man, and always left an impression. He loved to entertain and helped prepare special dishes for family and friends. He enjoyed many family vacations – both domestic and abroad, including cruises, as well as relaxing time spent at the family cottage in Michigan. He was a member of Toledo Ski Club, and he and his family enjoyed years of skiing, starting their son, Adam, skiing at age 3. Charlie was also was part of a bowling league every Tuesday night for over 25 years. He was a skilled golfer, and past member of Brandywine Country Club. Charlie held season tickets for the University of Michigan football program for over 40 years. On Saturdays during football season, Charlie could often be found surrounded by loved ones at The Big House cheering on the Wolverines. His active life changed with a cancer diagnosis in 2008, though as his activity level declined in his remaining years, he continued to relish the time that he spent with family and friends. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Karen Peckinpaugh; eternally grateful son, Adam W. Peckinpaugh (Bow Chaialee); siblings, David Peckinpaugh, Patricia (William) Kemp; niece, Julianna Peckinpaugh; nephew, David Peckinpaugh, and Madison Chaialee. Madison will surely miss her Papa Charlie giving her countless rides on his walker, as well as the time spent building towers out of blocks together and conversing for hours. Maxwell was Charlie’s four-legged friend who kept him company by sitting beside his chair, and continues to watch over the space. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents. No services will be held at this time. The family plans to have a Celebration of Charlie’s Life later in the fall. Arrangements were handled by Walker Funeral Home, Toledo, OH (419-841-2422). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a place very dear to his heart, The Victory Center, 5532 Central Avenue, Suite B, Toledo, OH 43615.
