Charles F. Meachen, 84, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo, OH. Charles was born on July 4, 1925 in Erie Twp, Port Clinton, OH, the son of William S. and Adah Kleinhans Meachen. He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1943. He married Naomi J. Coyle, on June 21, 1947 in Port Clinton, OH at St. John Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2009. Charles worked as a machinist for 35 years for the U. S. Gypsum Co. and retired in 1987. He was a lifelong farmer in Erie Twp and was born in the same house he currently lived in. Charles was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and served on Church Council, the Endowment Fund committee and served as a Sunday School teacher. He was an AARP income tax volunteer for 20 years, member of the Ottawa County Board of Elections, Ottawa County Republican Central Committee and the Ottawa County Farm Bureau. Charles enjoyed farming, his computer, camping, fishing, visiting with his children and grandchildren, and meeting with his fellow classmates from the Port Clinton High School Class of 1943. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: Son: John Janice Huebner Meachen of Wausau, WI; Daughters: Ruth Ann Richard Budd of York, ND, and Katherine Robert Walls of Port Clinton, OH; Grandchildren: Carrie Noel Christian of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Jennifer Mark Mitchell of Stevens Point, WI, Jennifer Jay Bonning of Strongsville, OH, Jeffry Beth Meachen of Wausau, WI, Nathanael Budd of Minot, ND and Adrienne Casey Anderson of East Grand Forks, MN; Great-Grandchildren: Christian Anderson, Emma Meachen, Hazel Mitchell and Caleb Christian; Step-Great-Grandchildren: Chase, Colton and Carter Christian and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife Naomi; infant son Frederick Meachen; brother Mervin Carmen Meachen; sisters Bernice Meachen, Lucreta Meachen, Eula Bernard McRitchie and Geraldine Don Hanney. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8PM, Wednesday, April 7, 2010, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. James Lehman, at 10:30AM, Thursday, April 8, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, OH, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in LaCarpe Cemetery, LaCarne, OH. Memorial donations in memory of Charles may be given to St. John Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
