Charles S. Kristof

July 26, 1931 — April 23, 2016

Charles S. Kristof, age 84, passed away on April 23, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born July 26, 1931 to Louis and Anna (Lesinszki) Kristof in Toledo, Ohio and was one of six children. Charles attended Waite High School and later enrolled at Macomber School for Boys where he graduated from the commercial arts program in 1950. He was called to service in 1951 during the Korean War and enlisted with the Navy. There he proudly served on the USS McCaffery until 1955. After his service, he made a career as a machinist in the auto parts industry. In 1990, he was diagnosed with colon cancer, but much like everything else he put his mind to, he battled cancer and won. Even to his final days, he fought, and it was him who decided when he was ready to retire from this life and start a new one. He had a wonderful sense of humor and unique outlook on life. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, truly caring for all, including Gods creatures. He loved all animals, no matter how small and would often care for strays. Charles had a passion for the arts and loved classical music, specifically the violin and piano ballads of which he has a large selection of music at home. He often played pool and referred to the pool stick as his war club. He also enjoyed spending his time at flea markets, collecting nautical items to take home. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe Kristof and Louy Kristof; sisters, Helen VanBuran and Mary Ann Adams. He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Robert) Carstensen, Brenda Kristof, and Laura (Steve) Spitler; brother, Frank Kristof; eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH from 2-8PM on Friday, April 29. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30 at 9AM with interment to follow at the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to The Toledo Humane Society, 827 Illinois Ave, Maumee, OH 43537, or Paws and Whiskers, 32 Hillwyck Dr, Toledo, OH 43615.
