Charles T. Kopp, of Perrysburg, Ohio died February 9, 2016. He was born on November 14, 1926 to Charles H. and Margaret (Sumner) Kopp. He was a lifelong resident of Perrysburg and contributed much to the community throughout his lifetime. “Charlie” graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1944, and was a captain of their undefeated football team. After high school and before being drafted into the Army during WWII, Charlie satisfied his desire for adventure by working as a deck hand on a lake freighter. He then spent his tour of duty in Manila and then in Germany, during “The Occupation.” After his discharge from the service, Charlie enrolled at Bowling Green State University where he graduated in 1950 with a B.S. in Education. After teaching chemistry and math at Perrysburg High School for one year he worked as an estimator for several mechanical contractors until retirement. Charlie married Margaret Anne Houser in 1949. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2015. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on May 28, 2015. Charlie was a lifelong member of Zoar Lutheran Church, where he served as a past president of the congregation and on numerous committees. He also was a member of the American Legion and a past member of the Perrysburg Exchange Club. Charlie will be remembered as a loving, gentle, caring and generous man, who always was ready to help and serve others. He is survived by his daughter, Alison Brooks (Scott Pursell) of Mission Viejo, CA; grandson, Dr. Matthew Hunter Brooks of Destin FL; sister–in-law, Marianne Dauer, her son, Brett Dauer (Renee Allen) and daughters, Hailey and Kaitlyn of Hendersonville, Tennessee. Charlie also is survived by Chip, Steve, and Charles Houser of Binghamton, New York and David Houser of Olney, Maryland. Charlie’s sister, Virginia Burning, predeceased him, as did his brother-in-law, Bob Dauer. A visitation will begin at 10 A.M. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Zoar Lutheran Church, 314 E. Indiana Ave, Perrysburg, OH, where a memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. with Pastor Timothy P. Philabaum, officiating. Burial will be private in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Zoar Lutheran Church or to Otterbein, Portage Valley.
