Charles Thomas Kahle, M.D., age 75, of Toledo, died January 6, 2018 at The Toledo Hospital after a brief illness. Tom was born December 8, 1942 in Toledo to the late Charles and Ida (Ham) Kahle. After graduating from DeVilbiss High School in 1960 and the University of Toledo in 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Mortimer, on August 1, 1964. Tom graduated from The Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1968 and served his internship with the United States Navy in 1968-69. Tom served part of his residency in San Diego, CA before returning to Toledo to begin his career at the St. Vincents Hospital Emergency Room in 1971. In the mid 1980s, he began in private practice and served the Toledo area until the time of his death. Tom was instrumental in founding one of Northwest Ohios first urgent care centers and was a longtime member of the Ohio State Medical Association. Tom was a devoted family man and talented physician who deeply enjoyed his work and caring for his patients. In his free time, Tom loved spending time outdoors, reading, fishing and sport shooting. He was also an avid collector of guns and coins. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Joanne; children, Thomas (Theresa) Kahle and Amy (Eric) Holloway; grandchildren, Zack Kahle, Breanna (Mike) Scott, Vivian and Valarie Holloway; and sister, Judy Heiden. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association or a charity of the donors choice.
