Charles "Jack" DeVore

January 18, 1942 — October 22, 2025

Port Clinton

“A life well-lived, a heart well-loved.”

Charles “Jack” DeVore passed away on October 22, 2025, after a year of health challenges. Born on January 18, 1942, on Isle St. George (North Bass Island), Ohio, to Charles and Julia DeVore, Jack lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love.

Jack’s early years were marked by his commitment to his craft as a barber. Though his career shifted, Jack kept his barber’s license active throughout his life, continuing to share his talent with those he loved. Over the years, he gave countless haircuts to his family members, and friends—a simple act that brought him joy. Later, he began a long and successful career in welding supply sales, working for Welder’s Needs, Linde Gas, and AGA Gas. Serving customers throughout the Toledo and Adrian areas, Jack built lasting relationships grounded in honesty, hard work, and genuine care for the people he served. Yet it was his love of aviation that truly defined him. Known affectionately as “The Flying Barber,” Jack blended his professional talents with his passion for flight, becoming a beloved figure in his community. His enthusiasm for airplanes led him to contribute significantly to the Tri-Motor Heritage Foundation, where he played a vital role in the restoration and rebuilding of the iconic Ford Trimotor aircraft.

On September 26, 1964, Jack married the love of his life, Renee Hahn, in Conneaut, Ohio. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with five children—each a reflection of their love and devotion: Jackie (Tim) Greenlese, Jodi (Eric) McClellan, Chuck (Heather Deibel) DeVore, Carol (Bill) Grady, and David (Robin) DeVore; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Ralph DeVore.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Renee; his parents, Charles and Julia DeVore; and siblings, Howard DeVore and Mary Ann Market.

Visitation will be held at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 1 ~ 7 pm. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 1 pm, with Fr. Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tri-Motor Heritage Foundation in Jack’s honor, ensuring his legacy of flight and community endures. Online condolences may be shared at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
