CHARLES J. HERMAN, JR. On March 21, 1935 Clara and Charles J. Herman Sr. gave birth to their youngest son, Charles J. Herman Jr. Spending a lifetime on the eastside of Toledo, Chuck was of great service to his church and everyone in the community. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and was a graduate of Macomber High School. Charlie was lucky in love the first time with Norma (Grote), married 52 years. He worked for ITT Continental Baking Co. to support their eight children. After retirement from Wonder Bread/Hostess Cake, he took a job at Cardinal Stritch High School where his children attended. After Norma’s passing, he continued his lifetime of service when he joined the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Msgr. Robert Yates Assembly 2800, and the Mother Teresa Council 14344 where he was a Knight of the Fourth Degree. Lucky in love a second time, he married Pat Jaeger (Koberstein) in June 2014. After four years of traveling and love, Chuck passed away unexpectedly in their home on Monday, June 11. Mr. Herman’s legacy is long because of his unfailing faith, kindness, dedication and most of all his sense of humor. The Nevada Street Hermans: Chris, Barb, Mary, Holly, Rosi, Margaret, Chuckie and Joey grew into many families: Atkins, Kimball, Rosenberg, Dumbaugh, Corbin, Brandt, George, Reese, Rooks, Adamski, Gingrich, Maltman, Thanasiu, Billups, Jaeger and Mullholand. The current tally is 11 kids, 39 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild with two more great-grandchildren on the way. Friends will be received on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hoeflinger-Shank Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave. Oregon, Ohio (419-691-6768) with Scripture and Knights of Columbus Services beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Epiphany of the Lord, Sacred Heart Campus, 509 Oswald St. Toledo, Ohio, 43605, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Helping Hands of St. Louis, or Cardinal Stritch High School.
