Charles Robert Helbing

Charles Chuck Helbing, Jr., passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010, at The Toledo Hospital. He was born on April 21, 1937 to Charles and Iola Christian Helbing and was a 1955 graduate of Waite High School. He served in the Air National Guard. Chuck currently was employed at Northwest Urgent Care but was a retired Toledo Firefighter and Paramedic, a career which he loved. He enjoyed baseball all his life and was a lifelong Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Ohio State Buckeye Fan. Chuck was an avid reader of mysteries and To Kill A Mockingbird was his favorite novel. He enjoyed the game of golf and their family dog, Cookie, who loved her morning tummy rub. Chuck was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church where he ushered and sang in the Joyful Noise Choir. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Beverly Perry Helbing and daughter, Jennifer Gerry Fong; son, Michael Kandi Helbing; stepchildren, Laura Hammer, Richard Tammy Hammer, Lisa Chris Koester and Michelle Hammer; grandchildren, Kevin Fong, Katie Rose Fong, Michael Monday, Jr., Gage Helbing, Aden Helbing, Amanda Whitehurst, Mykyla Whitehurst, Christopher Whitehurst, Connor Koester, Chelsea Adams, Briana Freeman, and Dylan Price; brothers, Ted Kim, Tom Nadine, David Terry; sister, Debra Harold French and 22 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Dauer. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, west of Corey Rd. on Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 9 PM with a Last Alarm Service on Thursday at 7 PM. Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 915 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43615. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Epiphany Lutheran Church and the Toledo Firefighter Museum, 918 W. Sylvania Ave. Toledo, OH 43612.
