Charles James Glander

April 1, 1920 — November 3, 2007

Charles J. Glander, age 87, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007 at Evergreen Manor in Montpelier, OH. The son of Thomas and Florence Glander, he was born April 1, 1920 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Charles was very proud of his service in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946. He received many medals of Honor including the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with a Bronze star and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he began a 41 year career with Textile Leather Gen Corp. retiring in 1983. Charles was member American Legion #545, M.O.C.A. #44 and past commander of VFW 606, Lucas County Council, and District #1, and served on the Lucas County Burial Corp. He was also a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church for over 50 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Catherine; son, Howard Erika Russell; daughter, Susan Michael Mitchell; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 6 sisters, and grandson, Robert Russell. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 2-9 PM at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. Services will begin with prayers at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:15 AM followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM at Regina Coeli. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor
