March 7, 1940 — May 19, 2026

Charles R. "Chuck" Dewitz, 86, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Chuck was born on the family farm in Oak Harbor, Ohio March 7, 1940, to Roland and Bessie (Pfeiffer) Dewitz. He graduated from Salem-Oak Harbor High School in 1958. On January 9, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Lau. Over the years, Chuck worked for Kroger, Roadway Trucking, Duff Trucking, and Toledo Edison. He was a longtime board member with the American Red Cross and faithfully served the citizens of Carroll Township as a founding member of the EMS and as a township trustee for 17 years. In addition, Chuck served on the Board of Supervisors for the Ottawa County Soil and Water Conservation District and a term as an Ottawa County Commissioner. Chuck was a longtime member of the Oak Harbor Rotary Club, where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Chuck's greatest love was his family and the legacy of the family farm. Together, Chuck and his family raised sugar beets, tomatoes, and grain for many years. In later years, he enjoyed watching the daily activities of the farm from the doors of his shop and the sunroom in his house. He was a devoted member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Chuck and Ruth enjoyed many adventures. Together they enjoyed wintering with friends in Ruskin, Florida; and traveling throughout the United States and Europe, including a memorable trip to Italy with St. Wendelin Catholic Church of Fostoria, Ohio. Above all, Chuck treasured the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
