Charles “Chuck” Crandall, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on February 18, 2026, at the age of 88.
Chuck was born on December 15, 1937, in Northwood, Ohio, to Alfred and Hazel Crandall and was a proud graduate of Lake High School in Millbury. On September 16, 1961, he married the love of his life, Judy, beginning a partnership that spanned more than six decades and created a lifetime of memories centered around family, laughter, and hard work.
Chuck was the longtime owner of Perrysburg Collision and Auto Repair, where he built not only a successful business but also countless friendships. He had a remarkable ability to take anything apart and put it back together better than before. Whether it was fixing cars, painting pianos, working on a Navy biplane, or helping someone with a project, he was always ready to lend a hand. His family lovingly called this talent “Crandallizing,” and it became one of the many ways he showed his love for others.
Nothing meant more to Chuck than time spent with his family and friends, especially at the cabin on Black Lake in Michigan. It did not matter the season. Snowmobiling in the winter, long summer days by the water, or quiet evenings together made the cabin his happy place and the setting for treasured family traditions. Even though he was not a strong swimmer, he faithfully kept watch over everyone from the beach or the boat to make sure his family was safe.
He also enjoyed golfing with friends, working puzzles and Sudoku, and taking fishing trips to the Florida Keys. Chuck had a well-known sweet tooth for ice cream and cookies and always appreciated a good margarita. More than anything, he will be remembered for his kindness, his willingness to help anyone in need, and the steady and loving presence he was in the lives of those who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his children, Paige (Tony) Sloma and Lance (Belynda) Crandall; and his grandchildren, Bradley (Quinn) Crandall, Madeline Crandall, and Annelise Sloma, who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Bernice McGillis, and his brother, Howard (Pat) Crandall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Hazel (Goodman) Crandall, and his brother, Raymond Crandall.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the compassionate care and support given to Chuck.
Chuck will be cremated, and his life will be honored privately by his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Humane Society.
Chuck’s legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and quiet generosity will live on in all who knew and loved him.
