Charles L. Conley, known to many as “Larry” and to a few special work friends as “Charlie,” passed away peacefully after a long illness on September 12, 2025, in the compassionate care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was 83 years old.
Born on June 14, 1942, in Auxier, Kentucky, Charles was the son of Charles E. and Malta (Freeman) Conley. He grew up in Ohio and graduated from Lake High School in Millbury.
Charles was stationed in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War, and he proudly served as a nurse. He went on to devote 36 years to Chrysler, where he worked in various labor roles. His laid-back, “laissez-faire” attitude, playful goofiness, and easygoing nature made him a joy to be around.
Outside of work, Charles found fulfillment in the simpler things in life. He enjoyed writing down his life experiences, tinkering with his beloved cars, especially '69 models and anything Dodge, and catching up on Westerns or the latest news. He could often be found out on a walk, soaking in the sun with a cigar, savoring a meal at Red Lobster, or enjoying a bowl of banana pudding.
A lover of animals, Charles adored his late dog, Dusty, and liked visiting his grand-cat, Whiskey. He had a knack for collecting coins, baseball cards, and all sorts of knick-knacks that filled his shelves, each with a story.
Above all, Charles cherished time with his family. He is survived by his children, Aaron Conley, Margot (Jim) Sumalpong, and Marion Monte; his grandchildren, Angel Monte and Jeremiah Ickes; his sister, Glenda Conley; his nephew, Eric Shivak; nieces, Tracy Radford and Jill (Pat) Heskitt; as well as many beloved great-nieces and nephews, extended family in the Philippines; his good friend, Mike, and many other loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Malta Conley; sister, Bonnie Brooks; former wife, Marilyn Conley (2023); his loyal dog Dusty; and his good friend, Richard.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West Street, Genoa, Ohio, where a funeral ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Clay Township Cemetery.
