Charles Warren Owen, 87, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on October 25, 2026.
Charles was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on November 16, 1938, to Harold Arthur Owen and Marjorie Ruth (Ashley) Owen Link. He graduated from South Side High School in 1956 and went on to earn his master's degree from Purdue University. He met and married Madeleine Hazel Walker in 1969, and they later moved to Manlius, New York, where Chuck built his career at A.O. Smith. A second move took the family to Troy, Ohio, where he worked until his retirement.
Chuck was a constant presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren, whether it was cheering them on at sporting events, talking politics, or just calling to hear how things were going. He was always quick with a story or a joke, whether he knew you or not. For him, a laugh was the fastest way to make someone feel welcome, and he never met a stranger.
After retiring, Chuck moved to Sylvania, Ohio, where he found one of his greatest joys volunteering at Ebeid Hospice. Some of his most rewarding work there was sitting with patients and supporting their families.
Charles is survived by his son, James M. Owen (Jenn); his daughters, Jennifer E. Merz (Alvin) and Rachel O. Cummins (Jeff); and his grandchildren, Kimberly (Austin) and Nikolaus, and Andrew, Quinton, and Colton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeleine; his parents; and his brother, Robert Owen.
Services will be held at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on November 3, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chuck's memory to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio Foundation, designated for the Ebeid Hospice Center in Sylvania (hospicenwo.org).
