Charles W. Boesel, age 90 of Toledo, died Wednesday January 6, 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Charlie was born in New Bremen, Ohio on September 11, 1919 to Clifton and Laura Kawell Boesel. In 1925 his family moved to Toledo where Charlie graduated from Scott High School. Charlie furthered his education at Wittenberg University, the University of Toledo, the University of Michigan and Pace University. From 1942 to 1945 Charlie served with the 8th Air Force in Europe. After the service, Charlie was Business Manager for the Toledo Mud Hens from 1946 to 1952. Charlies extensive career in the automotive industry began in 1952 as Government Contract Administrator for National Supply Co. He then joined Hall-Toledo where, over close to twenty years, he worked his way up to President. He served as Vice President Automotive Marketing for Robinair Mfg. Co. in Montpelier, Ohio then Vice President of Draf Industries in Bedford Hills, New York. Rather than retiring, at the age of 64 Charlie organized and developed his own company after moving back to Toledo. Special Automotive Marketing was dedicated to automotive service tool sales, marketing and consulting. He retired in 2004. Early in his career, Charlie was active in Junior Chamber of Commerce serving as Vice President of local and state chapters. He was chairman of the first Christmas Lighting Contest and chairman of Charity Commission. He served as a board member to the Toledo YMCA and was instrumental in developing the YMCA Indian Guide Program for fathers and sons. Charlie was a member of the Automotive Climate Control Committee of Society of Automotive Engineers and a member of the International Mobile Air Conditioning Society. He served as a speaker at the several automotive service tool meetings. Charlie was a member of the following local organizations: Toledo Post #335 American Legion, First Presbyterian Church, Maumee, Toledo Metroparks, Toledo Zoo, and Whiteford Valley Golf Club Retirees League. In his later years, he and his wife, Jean, were frequent volunteers for the Area Office on Aging of Northwest Ohio and the Great Maumee River Dragon Boat Festival. As an avid golfer, he enjoyed volunteering at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his sons, Virginia Slayton, a twin brother who died at birth, brothers, Tom Susie and John Irene, and granddaughter Ashley Boesel. Surviving are his wife Jean Koder Boesel, sons Alan of Pensacola Florida and Chris Mary Ann of Ottawa Hills, step-daughters Cherie Dale Hunter of Sylvania and Robin David Poland of Toledo; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and sisters Lois May of Toledo and Betty Little of Saline, Michigan. Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee on Sunday January 10, 2010 from 2-5 pm where funeral services will begin on Monday at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
