Charles Charlie E. Berry Jr., 75, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away, Wednesday, October 23, 2019 in the loving arms of his wife. Charlie was born October 23, 1944 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Charles and Betty (Young) Berry. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Albany. On May 14, 1966, he married the love of his life, Arlayne J. Armstrong in Toledo, Ohio. Together, they raised five loving daughters, Angela, Lauretta, Patricia, Jennifer and Cathleen. Charlie retired from Conrail where he worked as railroad conductor for over 20 years. He was proud to have served as American Legion Commander of Post 210, in Middlebury, IN. He had a passion for horse racing and spending time with others who enjoyed it also. He took pleasure in taking road trips and spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever he could. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and for telling great stories and making up his own jokes. He was an avid baseball fan who could often be found rooting for his beloved Chicago Cubbies. He accomplished every one of his lifelong dreams and lived to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. He is known affectionately by his siblings and their children as “Chuckie.” Choo Choo and Papa Choo were also loving nicknames. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles Berry Sr, his mother, Betty Jane Berry, daughter, Angela (Berry) Ball and brother-in-law Frank Lowrie. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Arlayne J. Berry; four daughters, Lauretta (Darren) Grumm, Patricia (Charles) Hostetler, Jennifer (John) Meyer, Cathleen (Steve) Colpetzer; six grandchildren, Amber, Austin and Jack Ball, Katlyn Trout, Dylan Colpetzer, Jane Woods; three great-grandchildren, Miranda Roumell, Glenn Woods and Liam Cook; three siblings, Pat (Joyce) Berry, Tom (Jan) Berry, Peggy Lowrie and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. There will be a Military Graveside service at Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St., Sylvania, OH 43560, which will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday Nov. 9, 2019. Celebration of Life will follow (around 2:00 PM) at IBEW Union Hall, 807 Lime City Rd., Rossford, OH. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Fisher House, as was his wish (housing for veterans families while their veteran is in a VA hospital).
