Charles T. Avery, Sr., 82, of Oak Harbor died Wednesday afternoon, November 18, 2015, at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital, Oregon. Charles was born October 4, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, to Ernest and Anna (Rafferty) Avery. On October 6, 1951, in Oregon, Ohio, he married Carol S. Keaton and she preceded him in death July 7, 2006. He retired in 1993 having worked from Boilermakers Union Local 85. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rocky Ridge. Charles was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and his hobbies included welding, gardening and playing cards, but his favorite hobby was playing with his grandchildren. Charles is survived by his children, Charles, Jr. (Jan) Avery and Ellean (Gerry) Rife both of North Carolina, Mahlon Buck (Faith) Avery, Carolyn (Gary) Renwand, John (Kaye) Avery and June (Jim) Beard all of Oak Harbor; special companion, Shirley Reif; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and brother, Allen Avery. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Jack, Richard and Ernest Avery, and sisters, Donna Ireland, Ellean Shaneck and Vera Schultz. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 23, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church, 450 N. Rocky Ridge Rd., Rocky Ridge, with interment to follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. The family has suggested memorials for Charles to St. John Lutheran Church, 450 N. Rocky Ridge Rd., Rocky Ridge, OH 43458.
