Charles Arthur Asmus

Charles Charlie Asmus age 81 of Toledo passed away March 10, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born November 12, 1926 to Carl and Margaret Kortheuer Asmus. His young life was filled with music. His grandmother Mary sang opera and his grandfather, Arthur W. Kortheuer with the cooperation of others founded the Toledo Symphony Orchestra in 1897, an organization at that time with only 50 professional musicians with Mr. Kortheuer as conductor. Charles graduated from Libbey High School and attended Toledo University. Originally a CB radio operator, Charles later became an amateur HAM radio operator with an E class status and was past president of the former S.A.R.A. Radio Club. He was always active with many hobbies and loved to whistle. He worked in his early years for the former Loesch Motors in Maumee, Ohio and had quite a love affair with the automobile. He retired from AP Parts in 1990 after 30 years of service and was very proud of his hard work ethic. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brother Clarence Bud Asmus. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Claire who was also his childhood friend!; daughter Victoria Asmus; granddaughters Carla Asmus-Everly and Christie Danicke; and great-grandchildren John Klein, IV and Olivia Everly. Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee on Saturday after 11 AM where memorial services will follow at 1 PM. The family would like to thank all the Hospice of Northwest Ohio workers for their superb care and tenderness and direct any memorials in Charles name to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
