Oak Harbor

Charles "Charlie" Hill Jr., affectionately known to many as "Anker Klanker," passed away suddenly at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the age of 77.

Charlie was born on November 5, 1948, in Painesville, Ohio, to Charles Hill Sr. and Joyce Hill. He graduated from Fairport Harbor High School in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, and later earned his Merchant Marine certification, beginning a lifelong career on the water. Charlie was proud to spend his life as a merchant mariner, a profession that reflected his adventurous spirit and steadfast work ethic.

On February 24, 2012, Charlie married, Mary (Ferback), in Port Clinton, Ohio. Together they shared a life rooted in love, faith, family, and friendship.

Charlie never met a stranger. A true people person, he had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. His warm smile, kind heart, and genuine interest in others earned him countless lifelong friendships. He will be remembered as a faithful servant of God who loved to grow in his faith, share the Gospel, and spend time reading Christian books.

When he wasn't on the water or enjoying time with family and friends, Charlie could often be found in the woods camping, fishing, kayaking, or canoeing. He also loved to travel and embrace the beauty of God's creation. Those who knew him will fondly remember his enjoyment of cinnamon Fireballs, pineapple sherbet, and German chocolate cake-simple pleasures that always brought a smile to his face.

Above all, Charlie's loving nature, generous spirit, and unwavering kindness will be his greatest legacy. He touched the lives of everyone he met and leaves behind a lasting example of compassion, faith, and friendship.

Charlie is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Mary Hill; his children, Dawn (James) Sansonetti, Kristen (Steve) Horvath, Colin (Tiffany) Hill, Amanda (Dennis) Fekete, Roger (Deanine) Parker, and Eric (Michele) Parker; his siblings, Margie (Lawrence) Bruen, Louise Kloss, and Doug Hill; his grandchildren, Christopher, Emily, Seth, Brianna, Kallie, Skylar, Payge, Candice, Conner, Grayce, Gage, Madelyn, Macey, and Jaret; and 12 cherished great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Joyce Hill; his sister, Kathy; his brother-in-law, David; his grandson, Jeffrey; and his granddaughter, Makalyn.

A memorial service celebrating Charlie's life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 165 E. Water Street, Oak Harbor, Ohio, officiated by Pastor Todd Frederick. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward for a luncheon at Shoreline Church, 769 N. Locust Street, Oak Harbor, Ohio.
