Charlene M. Nolte

Charlene M. Nolte, 90, of Genoa, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009, in St. Charles-Mercy Hospital, Oregon, following a brief illness. She was born September 12, 1918, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, to Harmon and Myrtle Smith. The family later moved to the Mississippi Delta, where she spent her youth. She met and married Robert Nolte, December 29, 1945, while he was in the Army stationed near Indianola, MS. They began a family in Genoa, where she remained the rest of her life. She and Bob owned and operated Genoa Sohio Service for many years retiring in 1984. Charlene was a member of Genoa Christian Church and the American Legion Post #324 Auxiliary. She loved ceramics, the Toledo Rep Theater and playing UNO. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Harmon, husband, Robert, sister, Willie Faye, brothers, Horace, John, and Hayes Smith, infant son, James, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Nolte. She is survived by sons, Dick Cindy of Genoa and Bill of New York City, grandson, Nathan of Bowling Green, sisters Clarice Pittman of Sunflower, MS, Loyce Ellis of Madison, MS, and sister-in-law Dawn Nolte of Genoa. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and special friends to cherish her memory. Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Genoa Christian Church, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Restlawn Cemetery, Perrysburg. The family invites family and friends to a reception in her memory at the church at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Irma Nolte Scholarship Fund in care of the Genoa Christian Church. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Genoa, has assisted with arrangements.
