Cathy Koster

Cathy Ann Koster, 69, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully in Florida on March 3, 2023, after unexpected health complications. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, to her late parents, Leonard and Peggy (Fraley) Lowe and later attended Sylvania High School, where she graduated in 1972. Through her cousin Ron, she met her would-be husband, Gerald “Gerry” Koster, and married him in 1971 after his steady and relentless pursuit of her, and shortly thereafter gave birth to the first of her three children. She worked in the healthcare industry as an office supervisor for some years, but being a mother and wife meant everything to her and was the proudest and most loving grandma to all of her grandchildren.

Gerry and Cathy were tied at the hip and did everything together. They traveled all around the world, visited Hawaii, and went on many cruises, but their 2 most memorable trips were to Paris for their 40th wedding anniversary, and to Alaska as it was Gerry’s last trip they had together before he passed. Cathy was always looking forward to her monthly get-togethers with her “72 hotties” group which have stuck together since high school, and she loved spending time with her best friend, Cher. The two could be found doing everything together, whether they hit the stores shopping, going on motorcycle rides with their husbands, getting groceries and even just relaxing by a fire doing nothing. She made many memories with her family at her and Gerry’s property on Lake Seneca, and loved taking trips to visit Ron and Cher’s lake house in Coldwater, MI. She was the ultimate hostess and loved entertaining people, never disappointing her guests with her large, homemade dinner spreads and specialty desserts of cheesecakes and pecan pie, and she also enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family. She took every opportunity to spend time with her grandkids—they truly brought her the most joy in the world.

Cathy will lovingly be remembered as the sweetest woman with a magnetic personality and everyone she met seemed to like her, and her children will always remember her gentle, motherly instinct to care for them. Her eyes told it all, as she possessed a unique ability to communicate with her family simply by a glance. Her sweetness alongside her slight attitude will be missed by everyone. She was a very loved woman, and will be exceedingly missed by all who knew her.

Cathy is survived by her children, Jeremy Koster (Tiffani), Matt (Kerry) Koster, Missy (Jon) Ward; her many grandchildren; brothers, Don (Mary) Lowe, Jerry Lowe, Paul (Sue) Lowe, Gene Lowe; and lifelong friends, Ron and Cher Horner. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gerald “Gerry” Koster.

Guests are welcome to a visitation at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W Sylvania Ave, Toledo, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 3-8 p.m. Her funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 16, at 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
