Cathy Lahnell Jaeger (Cawood), 70, of Toledo, Ohio passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 19, 2026, after a long battle with COPD. Her granddaughter Dominique was her live-in caregiver in the last years of her life and their bond was unbreakable. With her help and through the dedicated support of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Cathy was able to spend her final hours in the comfort of her own home as was her final wish.
She was born on April 20, 1956, to Loretta Cawood (Sharp) and Henry Cawood in Pineville, Kentucky. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio where she attended school, raised her family, married the love of her life, Scott Jaeger, and supported hundreds of other families in her 40-year career as a community manager for several affordable housing communities.
Cathy was an amazing mother, a loyal friend, an advocate for her autistic son and a fighter to the very end. She was the guiding light of her family, and she always presented herself with compassion, loyalty and grace. She had a heart the size of Texas. If you had her in your corner, you knew that the odds were in your favor. She enjoyed gardening, boating, dancing, swimming, bowling, shooting pool, visiting the casino, traveling to Florida, and spending time with those she loved. She loved sneaking too many treats to her dog Peanut and her cats, S'mores and Oreo. She often referred to her children and grandchildren as her greatest accomplishments, and they will all miss her greatly.
She is survived by her daughters; Heather (Julian) Boose and Diana Kanneman, her son; John Kanneman, grandchildren; Colleen O'Neill, Jewlia Boose, Gabriel Boose, Dominique Hutchisson, Jasmine (Nuni) Boose, and Romeo Overman, great-grandchildren; Lydia Levin and Ayden Boose, her brother; Audie (Kim) Cawood, sisters in law; Sherri (Michael) Artz and Janet Jaeger, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who had become family over the years. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Henry and Loretta Cawood, her husband Scott Jaeger, her father-in-law Paul Jaeger, her mother-in-law Barbara Jaeger, her brother-in-law Rodney Jaeger, her dear family friend Linda Boose, and her grandson Julian Boose.
The family asks you not to dwell in sadness but welcomes you to remember her with fondness as you look out into the water, bask in the sun, see beautiful flowers, or spot unexpected pops of her favorite color orange as you go about your day to day. We know that she will live on in all the little things and will be forever in all of our hearts.
The family will receive visitors at Walker Funeral Home at 5155 Sylvania Avenue on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 2 pm to 5 pm with a funeral service directly following. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to Bittersweet Farms.
