Cathleen “Cathy” Janis Carle, 79, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024, at Kingston of Sylvania. She was born on February 5, 1944, in Toledo to her late parents, Harold C. Zaleski and Stefania “Honey” Janiszewski. A graduate and valedictorian of Central Catholic High School in 1962, Cathy furthered her education at the University of Toledo and obtained a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught for multiple years before shifting paths and working for ProMedica for over a decade where she was responsible for medical billing.
Cathy married the love of her life, John Carle, in 1967, which began the first of their 57 years together. Cathy loved her children more than anything. After having lost a son at a young age, Cathy and John raised their two children together in a loving home. She had a special knack for arts and crafts which led to her involvement in various art fairs across Ohio and Michigan and running an art-based business called Dough Cuzzins with her cousin, which for a time had a storefront in Franklin Park Mall. She also enjoyed art classes at Lourdes over many years.
In addition to art, Cathy and John loved to travel and took trips across the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, and the States. She made great memories with her friends on cruises, but her favorite places of all came down to Italy and Myrtle Beach. Cathy and John also loved to spend time with their friends attending the theatre and sharing many dinners. She was also a proud grandmother to her four grandchildren, and was a generous, likable lady to all who knew her. She had a sweet sense of humor, always enjoyed having a good time, and was talented at sharing her knowledge of art with her grandkids. She was truly an amazing and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend and her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John Carle; her children, Alice (Erik Power) Carle, Jay (Sarah Schaub) Carle; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jack, Evelyn, Dinah; and many dear cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, John Harold.
All are welcome to visit at a memorial gathering on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 11-2 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W Sylvania Ave., Toledo.
