Catherine Geraldine Katie Herzog Jacoby

Catherine “Katie” Geraldine (Herzog) Jacoby, 90, of Port Clinton died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2014 under Stein Hospice care at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. Born on April 27, 1924 in Sandusky, Catherine was the daughter of George and Lucille V. (Bechtel) Herzog. On Nov. 8, 1958, she married Henry A. “Hank” Jacoby of Sandusky. He served as Port Clinton Police Department chief for 20 years before retiring in 1985. Catherine was a Sandusky High School graduate. While living in Sandusky, she worked as a receptionist for Dr. D.B. Cuthbertson as well as for Judge Baxter at the Erie County Juvenile Detention Home. She also worked as a volunteer at the Old Memorial Hospital and was an active member of the V.F.W. band. In Port Clinton, she worked at P.C. Sales and Service in the office and parts department and served as a past president of the Child Guidance Council. In addition, she often volunteered for the Port Clinton schools’ cafeteria system and was a den mother in the Port Clinton chapter of the Cub Scouts of America in the 1970s. She also catered weddings and parties. Catherine loved to work in the yard and liked to help others. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making ceramics which were put on display at Ida Rupp Public Library. She loved to play golf and was skilled in playing both the piano and the accordion. Catherine especially loved to ice skate in her younger years. She was a member of the Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio. Her survivors include a son, Alan (Cindy) Jacoby of Oak Harbor, two grandchildren, Brynn and Brent Jacoby, whom she babysat and loved dearly; two step daughters, Barbara Fox of Sandusky and Kathleen Cote of Columbus; nine step grandchildren; four great step grandchildren and three great-great step grandchildren; sister-in-law Gloria Herzog of Sandusky; nephew Father Mark Herzog of Oregon; nephew George (Wendy) Herzog of Norwalk; cousins; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry on Feb. 7, 2013. He was 97; parents George A. and Lucille V. Herzog Sr.; sister, Mary L. Schiefley; brother, George Herzog Jr. and nephew Charles Schiefley. Her services will take place 1-2pm, Friday, August 22, 2014 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, followed by funeral services at 2:00pm. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorials on Catherine’s behalf can be sent to the Port Clinton Fraternal Order of Police No. 79, 1868 E.
